Key Applications and Technical Analysis of Gas Sensors in Industrial Waste Gas Monitoring

Source:ShanXi TengXing Sensor TechnologyCo.,Ltd2025-09-09 09:40:04

Industrial waste gas is a general term for various polluting gases generated by enterprises during their production processes. Its composition is complex and often contains a variety of substances that are harmful to human health and the ecological environment. With increasingly stringent environmental regulations, effective treatment and accurate monitoring of industrial waste gas have become a legal obligation and social responsibility for enterprises. In this process, gas sensors, as the "sensing organs" of the monitoring system, play an irreplaceable and core role.

The Necessity of Industrial Waste Gas Monitoring

Health Hazards: Harmful substances in waste gas (such as SO₂, NO₂, H₂S, and VOCs) can enter the human body through the respiratory system, directly causing illness or generating cumulative toxicity, seriously endangering the health of employees and surrounding residents.

Environmental Regulations: According to the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Law and other regulations, enterprises must pre-treat waste gas to ensure that it meets national emission standards (such as the "Comprehensive Emission Standards for Air Pollutants") before discharge.

Process Control and Treatment Efficiency Assessment: Real-time monitoring of gas concentrations at the inlet and outlet of purification equipment can effectively assess treatment efficiency (such as desulfurization and denitrification efficiency) and provide data support for optimizing process parameters and ensuring stable facility operation.

Core Technologies and Applications of Gas Sensors

Different target gases in industrial waste gas require sensors with different technical principles to ensure accurate and reliable monitoring.

Electrochemical Gas Sensors

MQ-E3-SO2 Electrochemical SO2 Sensor

MQ-E3-NO2 Electrochemical NO2 Sensor

Technical Principle: Detection is achieved through oxidation or reduction reactions of the target gas within the sensor, generating an electrical signal proportional to the gas concentration.

Features: Low power consumption, fast response, wide linear range, and high cost-effectiveness.

Detected Gases: Ideally suited for detecting inorganic toxic gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), ammonia (NH₃), and oxygen (O₂).

Applications: Widely used in portable gas detectors and fixed online gas monitoring systems, they are a key component of industrial safety and environmental monitoring.

PID Photoionization Gas Sensor

GD-PID Photoion sensor

Technical Principle: Uses high-energy UV light to ionize volatile organic compound (VOC) molecules, and measures gas concentration by detecting the current generated by ionization.

Features: Extremely high sensitivity (up to ppb levels), extremely fast response, and capable of detecting a wide range of gases. However, it is unresponsive to inorganic gases and small molecules such as methane.

Detected Gases: Primarily used to detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as benzene, toluene, xylene, ethylene, and propylene, as well as some inorganic compounds such as arsine.

Applications: Used in petrochemical, chemical, and spray coating industries to monitor VOC leaks and emissions, it is a key monitoring tool for VOC pollution control.

In addition, Tensensor also has a variety of types of gas sensors, including infrared gas sensors, electrochemical gas sensors, carrier catalytic elements, thermal conductivity gas sensors, industrial-grade semiconductor gas sensors, etc., which can detect combustible gases, toxic gases, oxygen, carbon dioxide and other gases in the industrial field. They are widely used in toxic and waste gas monitoring in storage environments, gas storage tanks, electronic chemical workshops, medical places, sewage and wastewater discharge areas and other scenes.
