The MQ-E4-CO carbon monoxide sensor is a constant-potential electrolytic sensor. Carbon monoxide and oxygen undergo corresponding redox reactions at the working and counter electrodes, respectively, releasing charges and forming an electric current. The magnitude of the current is directly proportional to the carbon monoxide concentration. By measuring the current magnitude, the carbon monoxide concentration can be determined.
