Industry News Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) is widely used in the electrical industry due to its excellent insulation and arc-quenching properties, such as in circuit breakers, high-voltage switches, high-voltage transformers, gas-sealed capacitor banks, high-voltage transmission lines, and instrument transformers. Furthermore, due to its chemical inertness, non-toxicity, non-flammability, and non-corrosiveness, SF6 is also widely used in metal smelting, atmospheric tracing, and electronics manufacturing.
Although SF₆ gas is non-toxic under normal conditions, it decomposes under high-voltage electric arcs to produce toxic substances such as hydrogen fluoride (HF) and sulfur dioxide (SO₂). Even trace amounts of these decomposition products can be fatal. To address the risk of SF₆ leaks, the power industry uses high-precision sulfur hexafluoride gas detectors, with non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) SF6 modules as the core sensor.

Tensensor's TX720-Q2 Infrared SF6 Sensor is designed specifically for SF6 leak detection, the infrared sensor features linearity and repeatability, ensuring long-term stable and reliable measurements. The TX720-Q2 Infrared SF6 Sensor exhibits strong gas selectivity, unaffected by gases such as H2O, alcohol, and CO2. Furthermore, the sensor boasts a long service life and requires no maintenance. Its compact design allows for quick and easy integration into gas monitoring and control systems. The sensor also features UART (TTL level) digital output, facilitating connection to existing sulfur hexafluoride leak detection systems.
